Q Can you
give me some information on regional
incentives for entrepreneurs?
A In
accordance with EC priorities on regional policy, Spain has
introduced special legislation on regional incentives which provides
for government aid to enterprises being established in specific areas
to develop projects included in any of the economic sectors that have
been classified as worthy of subsidy.
These financial governmental aids
consist of: a) Full subsidies for duly approved
investment projects.
b) Subsidised interest on loans.
c) Subsidised
repayment on loans.
d) Rebates
on the Social Security payable by the entrepreneur for
those jobs approved and created during a maximum period of two years.
There are three categories of
zones: (i) economic development zones (there are four
sub-zones classified according to their level of development: Type I,
Type II, Type III and Type IV); (ii) declining industrialised zones;
and (iii) special zones. Generally speaking, the subsidies for
economic development zones and for declining industrialised zones may
reach 50 per cent and 75 per cent of the investment project’s cost
respectively.
